Reading Tillie Olsen’s “I stand here ironing” the best critical approach that is valid to this short story is the Feminist approach. The story takes place during the depression and is told by a woman’s perspective which is why the story is a feminist approach. The narrator describes the way she feels and introduces the readers to her pain and the way she views life. Looking at the title the reader is able to notice that the story deals with women because women usually iron, or do house work.  The story itself is about a woman who stand’s and irons, which shows a sense of motherhood during this time. The feminist approach is evident in the short story “I stand here ironing” because of all the events and experiences that the female narrator depicts. However “The yellow wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman also has a feminist approach because the story is told from a female’s point of view. In this story a woman is suffering from a sickness and her husband is her doctor. He limits her to express her emotions and therefore leading her to a severe state. At this point she starts believing in a woman who lives in the wallpaper. Because of her condition she goes crazy and tears the wallpaper down. The woman’s perspective in this story also concludes that a feminist approach presents itself.
